False Bay College Muizenberg

Muizenburg, Cape Town, South Africa
The central administrative offices of False Bay College moved into an existing building on Main Road, Muizenberg. As the building was not originally built for this purpose, it had to be refurbished to better suit the requirements of an educational facility and administrative head office. An open courtyard was covered with translucent roof, and acts as orientation device from where the offices, lecture spaces, canteen and media centre can be reached. New finishes and colours have selected to minimize the usual blandness of institutional facilities. The corporate red colour of False Bay College is effectively used as an interior and exterior feature colour. The exterior facades were upgraded by replacing a variety of openings with new glazed walls or brick panels. Passive climate control elements where introduced on the west facing facades, not only to assist with sun shading, but also to unify the facades. Completed as Partner at Meyer + Vorster Architects, Urban Designers and Interior Designers.
